Scripting &
Story Development
MY STORY STRUCTURE IS BUILT LIKE A TANK.
MY CHARACTERS LEAP OFF THE PAGE.
MY DIALOGUE CRACKLES LIKE MY NECK AFTER I’VE WRITTEN ON THE COUCH INSTEAD OF AT MY STANDING DESK.
Whether you trade in fiction, education, or advertising, I can help bring your scripts to life with passion, knowledge, and pizazz. I’ve worked on both short & long-form concepts for film production companies & corporate media departments, and there’s little I love more than helping other people optimise their stories.
What scripting & story development services do you provide?
Scripting: Do you have a story, but you’re having trouble making it sing? Give it to me, I’ll make that baby belt like Beyoncé. With an expert knowledge of structure, pacing, and dialogue, I can optimise your script’s story potential as well as its readability, while also giving it the special sauce it needs to stand out.
Script Editing/Script Development: Got a great premise for a film or TV series, but don’t know how to get it out of your brain and onto the page? Send me in, coach. I can help you strengthen your structure, develop your themes, build your world, and dimensionalise your characters. Whether you need me for one-on-one sessions, or as an addition to your writer’s room, I can help you refine and revise until you’ve realised your vision.
Script Doctoring & Punch Ups: If you’ve written a script that’s most of the way there—but you think it needs a little boost to achieve its full potential—I can do a dialogue pass, bolster story turning points, and add/improve jokes as you see fit.
Pitch Decks: Convincing yourself you’ve got a shit-hot story idea is one thing, but convincing others of that is its own art form; that’s why you need a five star pitch deck. I can either guide you through it with detailed notes, or write it for you soup-to-nuts. If you also have the budget for a designer, let’s see if we can rope in the GOAT.
Lecturing: If you, your company, or your school would like a crash course in story structure that you’re going to remember, I can provide a comprehensive and interactive session that will help you retain the basic tenets of story craft. Learn more about my Teaching/Lecturing here.
“Fabian is a very reliable writer, and excellent to work with. He writes about complex topics with an engaging conversational tone, and readily adapts his style to our needs. He's worked on various projects for us, including documentary-style, dialogue-driven drama, and interview-led programs. Fabian is our go-to writer when we need a bit of pizzazz!”
- Vicky Lee, Commissioning Lead at ClickView
“He has a background in sketch comedy, narrative writing and has produced all kinds of amazing stuff for stage and screen. . . he has funny bones, but can take a brief for a brand that needs to be serious, sombre, sincere or sweet, and adapt his style to what best communicates to the intended audience.”
- Chris Thompson, Founder & Executive Creative Director of Poison Gas Co
How do I get in touch with you?
You can email me at fabianlapham@gmail.com, or hit me up via this website’s contact page.
Why can’t I get AI to write my story?
Because AI can’t write stories, it can only plagiarise them. Not only is that unethical, but it can also land you in hot water if you’re hoping to turn a profit from your story.
Also, if you’re getting someone or something else to write your story; it’s not really your story, is it? It’s weird and gross to say otherwise. Like, come on, does your dad also work for Nintendo?
(Also, FYI, AI will also steal your ideas too. If you’ve submitted your IP into Chat GPT, Chat GPT now has your IP. It’s shitty, if very lyrically pleasing.)
What are your qualifications?
I have 15+ years of industry experience in addition to a Master of Screenwriting from the University of Melbourne + a degree in Digital Marketing Strategy.
What are your rates?
I will generally defer to AWG contracts & rates as a benchmark, but that’s malleable. Punt an email my way and tell me what you need.
What do you like to write for yourself?
When working on my own stories, I strive to produce high concept ideas with pop sensibility, typically in the genres of comedy, sci-fi, and fantasy.
Say, don’t you also have a background in sketch comedy?
I do, thanks for asking. I spent countless hours writing and performing live sketches with various groups and then briefly as a solo act. That all sort of led to me creating “Suspect Moustache”, Australia’s first animated sketch show, which was some primo weirdo shit made for SBS.

What’s on the slate now?
I’m currently developing a range of long-form narrative projects for stage, streaming services, and comics.
One such project is a multi-platform sci-fi musical with Richard Wise, composer of The Questions.
Another is comic/animated project with Mark Sheard, an old collaborator and a current director on Universal Basic Guys.
And I’m always working on stuff with Ashleigh Beevers-Lapham, who also designed this very website. She is both an amazing artist and an amazing wife, but she has only monetised the first thing. Our next comic is a direct follow up to our first one, “Wunderkammer”, a horror-comedy anthology that’s hosted by a sassy witch who is trying to sell cursed objects.
Both issues are completely self-contained, and you can currently buy the first one at our city’s favourite comic store, All Star Comics. (if you can’t swing by physically, reach out to the good folks at All Star and see if they can post it for ya).
You can read the first eight pages of Wunderkammer #1 here…
